Hay Fever - It's that time of year again

April 3, 2017

Anyone who's ever had it  knows how debilitating this seemingly simple condition is. The arrival of early Spring signifies the start of the symptoms which include sneezing, itchy and runny eyes, a runny and itchy nose, a sore throat, ears and mouth, headaches, sneezing and a dry cough.

So what causes Hay Fever?

Well, the physical causes are simple. the body simply becomes allergic to substances in the environment, generally pollen, or spores which are released as part of the reproductive cycle of plants and trees. these pollens and spores are in the atmosphere, from which they are easily inhaled. When there is an allergy present the body reacts to the allergens, producing histamine which causes the symptoms of Hay Fever.

Those with a family history of asthma, eczema and hay fever are at a greater risk of developing symptoms.

 What's the answer?

Conventional treatments include antihistamines which reduce the inflammation caused and thereby halt the symptoms for a period of time. However, these treatments have side effects, the most common of which is drowsiness - not very nice in the  middle of Summer!

So, can Reflexology help?

Yes! Absolutely! regular reflexology treatments, coupled with the self help advice I can provide, can certainly help minimise the reactions the body produces to the allergens causing an onset of symptoms. Please do get in touch for further information, or visit the 'Testimonials' page on the website to read of the improvements one sufferer has seen.
